TALK TO ME (2018)

Avideh Saadatpajouh & Yassaman Pishvaei

This project was initiated and implemented by Iranian designer Avideh Saadatpajouh and Iranian-Canadian artist Yassi Pishvaei in collaboration with children from Sirkhane. The result is a large 4-wall mural in which multiple electronic kits are used. The installation responds to sound through light. The artists started working on this project in August and the mural is now permanently active at Mardin Sirkhane center.

The Little Black Fish Mural (2022)

Mural Project (2023)

Kelsey Heimerman

The artwork for the Flying Carpet Festival incorporated a contemporary twist to ancient Turkish iconography. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Blue Mosque tiles in Istanbul, several artworks incorporated blue as a main color or implemented these tile like designs in the composition. A positive note of larger than life flowers in oversized Turkish tea pots and vessels often made it into this series of murals. I also incorporated nods to the olive tree that was the foundation of our traveling circus story. It was my intention to choose imagery that was universally bright and cheery to impact these spaces in the most beautiful way possible for children and adults alike.

The children’s painting workshops incorporated using native plants and animals from this area of Türkiye as well as the iconic hot air balloons of Cappadocia. These pre made stencils allowed the children to create something colorful and meaningful that gave them a sense of accomplishment when the images are revealed.

The Language Of The Birds (2024)

Ana Hachani (Nush Poke)

These murals were created as part of the 2024 edition of the festival, which was then centred on the Conference of the Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar. I have known this Sufi tale for a while and have been fascinated by its poetic power ever since.

As a wonderful coincidence, birds have been my artistic companions from the very start, and my favourite subjects for telling stories that transcend the human perspective and connect us to the myriad ways of life on our marvellous planet.

I chose to illustrate some emblematic sequences from the text, conveying a sense of adventure and the light that shines through challenges. I used a variety of colours and textures to reflect the diversity of bird species and landscapes evoked throughout the story. My aim was to capture the attention of children and draw them into this profound narrative. I really hope these murals act as keys to vast realms of imagination and inspire their creativity.
